Elements Used in CDBS 2.0

The data elements listed below are the current set of elements known to CDBS. New elements can be added at any time by introducing a new, unique 4- or 5-character element into the database.

These element codes are used in the netCDF variable names and variable attributes to indicate which type of data is being stored in the variable. The entry in the description column is used as the variable attribute "element," the units abbreviation in the std_units column is used as the variable attribute "units," and the number in the data_prec column (giving the default precision of data collected for that element) is used in the variable attribute "decimal_places."

Note that all of the elements that use units of feet are expected to store data in 'feet above Mean Sea Level'. For example, if a stream gage at an elevation of 1250 feet reports a stream depth of 8.5 feet, the database will store the stream stage as 1258.5 feet.
